Bronze winged jacanas ( ORMETOPIDIUS INDICUS)
JACANA OR THAMARAKKOZHI
Jacanas constitute a group of waders in the family of Charadridace,wade means walk with an effort through something especially water or mud.they are long legged birds that feeds in shallow waters.they walks on the floating vegetation such a way that we feel that they walk on hard soil.legs and toes are usually grey in colour,the huge feet and claws help them to walk on floating vegetation.
JACANAS AND MOORE HEN
I sighted a flock of bronze winged Jacanas by the side of a folk of purple moor hen at Thirunnavaya wet lands along the coast of Bharathappuzha on 22nd march 2012.
JACANAS TAKE OFF
When they sensed an alarm the jacanas started to get panic at first, moorehens remained alert but they didnt get frantic as the Jacanas Jacanas started to run scattered.When the moorhens confirmed that there was an intrusion ,they also started to fly.

The flight of Jacanas is truely amazing.!
THAMARAKKOZHI AND JACANAS
The female birds are larger than the male birds.They have red coloured tail wings’the inner wings are dark brown.The most enchanting item is the white eye stripe,the upper part of the body is light brown among young birds,these coast birds re seen along the banks during the months of January ,February and march and April.

Cages have t been spotted to have reported along the coast of Bharathapuzha.So jacanas can be taken as a domestic bird.
