While negotiating the sharp bend  there blooms a  herd of spotted deer by the grass land below the curve. It was really exciting to see the spotted innocent cuties!

When we passed another curve  two  peacocks slipped into the near by grove,we were off to see thev Kannimara teak, the  oldest teak in the world.on the way we scooped a young python on the way it was moving slowly as  DH lawrence’s snake.

The scaly but oily skin glittered ih the afternoon beams. The  distant calls of languars and the drumming wood peckers resonated through the forest. A Malabr giant squirre;l set up a din that sounded like a toygun,,sun light was being filtered in the  green canopy.

Parambikkulam  tiger reserve is one of the biodiversity hot spots of the world,that supports diverse  habitat types  and endemism .There blooms 1408 species of  plants.67 species of orchids blossom here.the common animals that dwell include spotted deer.sambar.barking deer common langur.Malabar giant squirrel, sloth bear and wild dogs.

The vehicle was crossing a grassland. herds of thundering gaurs stood there grazing.They were six or seven in number,The solitary meadows where  brownish black bundle of energy throbs!we could  feel the smell of energy when one of them raised their heads.the curved horns and look  revealed the energy,Indian wild gaur is reported to be the flag species of the sanctuary.\

The vehicle was stopped at a viewpoint rounding the various  mirror  finish reservoirs and different vistas around  the  reserve revealed extensive vistas of forest as far as eye could see.the primitive virgin forests unrolled..the  golden five o clock sunlight grazed over the green canopy!riot of different green shades  moss green ,parrot green,mango green,cactus green,bluish green ,dark green    the maze of lagoons and green islands!Parambikkulam tiger reserve is one of the most enchanting places in the entire stretch of western ghats.

As we crossed the Thoonakkadavu  dam where the after noon sky  and  vast stretch of sesrene waters fusing to form dark maiden forests.clouds realised the reflection of the dark virgin forest upon the sky

The sanctuary has three man made reservoirs.Parambikkulam,thoonakkadavu and peruvaripallam.thre are seven major valleysSholayar,Thekkady andparambikkulam rivers fall inthese resrvoirs.tjhe Karappara river  also empties into these reservoirs.

The sun was stting when we  had a view of the Karimala ranges. The son got dissolved in the play of colours as a phenophthalin drop got dissolved under water. Sunset was  really incredible in the forest.the Karimala like  a black yakshi lay silhouted .

Karimala which boarders the southern edge of the Parambikkulam reserve.Puliyarapadam  reserve. Pandavanrai  reserve ,Kunji mudi, Vengoli malai  form the other borders.

As  we drove back our light beams  picked up the eye shine of a  gaur grazing in the succulent grass.

Early in the morning ae walked along the mist clad trails on the forest. Suddenly the guards called out .he smelt a herd of elephants a few yards away.. the sound of tearing and ripping  and cracking was heard …i  watched the mist manifesting itself into trunks and tusks,I realized that the  skin colour of the forest elephant is a very far relative tone of black,,

Nobody can trace it unless it made a noise, camae  herd  turned back and moved when the guide made certain sounds with his moth and deep throat they steeped into deep forest.

The hunt  for the  tiger,, the terrer in stripes began after the break fast+++++The guide located the pug marks.. he even spotted the excretions and at last he stopped after a deep breath,, this is the smell of tiger !everytbody turned alert , i could trace a hot pungent smell .we seached for him but he was not found,its really an oasis of tranquil; greenery nestled in the valley wound up  watery hands of the reservoirs.Guide spotted the scratch mark of tigers which is considered as a mark of boundary of one male tiger.
